This one is a fixed MOD TRAP choke, VR barrel, 2.75' chamber. The first one I found is a 1970 870TB, which was the competition/trap gun with longer barrel (30') and deluxe figured stocks with the higher cheek piece.
I have been buying a few 870s in the last couple of weeks. Remington Wingmaster 870 Serial Number Check I sort of stumped her one day when I called in the SN of the 870 TC I bought about 8 years ago. Plus, when Remington was in business you could call and get routed to a very pleasant person who would look up the manufacture year of your receiver. You'll have to go to a bookstore and buy a reference book, or post a partial SN on line and ask someone who has one of the reference books to look it up for you. The Remington Collectors website has the code key, it’s also on this website in a couple of posts. Winchesters made after the 1960's have no on line data that I've ever located. Some limited runs used different systems, but it works for most. For example if the 1st 2 numbers are 25, the gun was built in 1975. Just subtract the 1st 2 digits of the SN from 100. Most Marlins made after 1972 have an easy date code built into the SN. Here I think.Ĭlick on the specific rifle for a SN range and the dates made for the Rugers. Ruger lists a manufacturing date somewhere on their website. Or if not the original barrel which happens quite often on 870's and other shotguns. If you find one with no date code you'll need to contact Remington. For about 2 years, 1990-91 I think they temporarily stopped dating the barrels. As long as it is the original barrel this is pretty accurate. Remigtons have a date code on the barrel.
